On top of the World....

It was a historic achievement for Singapore's 3 women climbers Jane Lee, Lee Li Hui and Esther Tan when they conquered the world's tallest mountain, Mt Everest. The other 3 women team is planning to reach the summit on Friday. Both teams began their ascent on May 8 and the first team reach the 8950 metre mountain on 20 May. It takes a lot of courage, determination, team work and perseverance to reach the world's highest peak aka the 'roof of the world'. It was really not an easy feat to reach the summit as when many had succeeded, many more climbers died before they could realize their dreams!!

Fighting Spiders

Somehow, all of us love to watch this latest Channel 5 drama serial 'Fighting Spiders' about 3 boys Soon Lee, Charlie and Peter with different family background came together and became very good buddies. Together they explored the adventures in the world of fishing, flying kites, fighting spiders, teenage crushes, first love , gangsterism which at times tested the loyalty of their friendship. Even bro2 was glued to the TV giggling away as he hid behind mummy when he saw one of the boys trying to court a pretty girl... he he. We also learnt abt the hard reality of life the boys had to face for eg Soon Lee's dad who left the family lurking in debt such that his brother had to join the 'mafia gang' to get extra cash and Peter's controlled-freak dad. Our own dad was also immersed in this feel good drama reminiscing his good old youthful days playing behind his house backyard searching for the Raja Labah Labah and playing 'tikam tikam'.. ha ha ha..

Out with the SWINE and in the AH1N1

First there was the swine flu. As we were trying to grasp the meaning of swine aka pig and to relate it to babi (which we try not to pronounce) aka khinzir, the flu was then named H1N1. The reason for the change was to ensure that the lifelihood of people who depend on rearing and selling swine will not jeorpadise as to date there was no scientific evidence that link consuming / preparing pork and the H1N1 virus. Our country is now on an orange alert and our school has increased our vigilance on cleanliness, daily temperature taking and unwell children are told to go home. School overseas trips to certain countries are postponed to a later date. Those who travel to high risk countries will be quarantined and non residents will be put at certain designated areas such as ALOHA chalet! At home, we kept ourselves updated by watching the daily news. Lets hope that this flu episode does not increase to the next level. Continue to take good care of our health plus don't forget to pop in the multivits!!

Jewel Cable Car

One of Singapore's icon , the cable car will stop moving for a while for a $36 million overhaul later this year. We will get a new cable car system rebranded as jewel rides which will be ready by the end of 2010. Our family went for a cable ride recently not knowing that it will be overhauled..... Hopefully , there is no increase to the new cable car's fee with all the 'jewels' on it.... as it is already very costly now !
